Freshwater Resources
Texas has many freshwater rivers, which originate from the Gulf of Mexico. There are many rivers in Texas that big cities originated on. The first is the Colorado river, which is 862 miles long, and runs through Austin. Then is the San Antonio river, which is 240 miles long and runs through San Antonio. Next is the San Jacinto River, which is 28 miles long, and runs through Houston. Then, last but not least, is the Trinity river, which is 708 miles long, and runs through Dallas. These are all used for freshwater in the cities listed that they run through, as well as many other cities near those rivers. There are several lakes as well that are used for freshwater resources, like Lake Travis, which is on the end of the Colorado river, in Austin, as well as many others. The other big recourse used in Texas for water (which covers 60% of the water used in Texas), is groundwater and aquifers. There many sections of aquifers too, like the trinity aquifer area, and the gulf coast aquifer area. |
